September 10 & 11, 2011 at the Bellevue College Main Campus



~ 2011 Aki Matsuri featured ~

Wonderful World of Leather
Wonderful World of Leather ... A pioneer leather artist, Keiko Murakami from Chiba, Japan was one of the featured artists in the 2011 Aki Matsuri. She exhibited many of her works and explained about the "Wonderful World of Leather".

Yukata Show
Kimono Presentation and Yukata Show ... Kimono Coordinator, Ugawa Yu and 5 assistants from Hyogo-ken, Japan conducted the Kimono Presentation and Yukata Show with local volunteer models.

Great Grandfather's Drum
"Great Grandfather's Drum" was presented at Aki Matsuri as a donation for Japan Relief by Opticus Media and producers Victoria & Cal Lewin, Maui Taiko, the Fukushima Kenjin Kai, Peace Winds of America, Regional Taiko Group, Lake Washington JACL, and the Eastside Nihon Matsuri Association. Donations benefited the Northeast Japan (Tohoku) recovery efforts.
 

Other activities: 2 full days of on-stage Performing Arts, Martial Art demonstrations by local dojo members, Puppet Shows based on Japanese Folk Tales, Tea Ceremony demonstrations, more than 80 exhibit booths, "Nomi-no-ichi … a Japanese style flea market", and Japanese food booths. There were workshops on bonsai, taiko, and a Japanese Gardening Presentation.

The 20th Annual Koi Show by the Washington Koi & Water Garden Society was held at Bellevue College during Aki Matsuri Weekend.
