8th Annual Aki Matsuri
September 10 & 11, 2005 at the Bellevue Community College Main Campus

2005 attendance was estimated to be about the same as 2004;
a considerable success considering the inclement weather. The
core programs again included the martial arts, culinary art,
fine art & craft exhibits & demonstrations, and performing
arts.

Tsugaru Nuri (lacquweware)" ... an educational block about lacquerware in Japan. Two guests from Aomori-ken presented lectures, demonstrations, and exhibits. Learn about the history, techniques, regional differences, and specifically Tsugaru Nuri.

"Ukiyo-e (Japanese Traditional Woodblock Print)" Printing Demonstratration by an artisan and a lecturer from the Adachi Institue of Woodcut Print, Tokyo, Japan. This was a rare opportunity to observe the printing process of this traditional woodblock printing technique.

"Nomi-no-ichi/Charity Yard Sale" came to the Aki Matsuri again! The Japan Business Association of Seattle (JBAS) and the Japan America Society - State of Washington (JASSW) presented the 2nd "Nomi-no-ichi/Charity Yard Sale" at this year's matsuri. All proceeds from the sale of the donated items again go to support the Seattle Japanese School and the Japan in the Schools programs.

Special Projects included Omikoshi Procession, Taiko Workshops, Bonsai Workshops,
and Japan Culture in Classroom Workshop.
